okay, the apologist’s review of Hesitation Marks:I can understand the companionship/comparison to The Downward Spiral. The Downward Spiral as a whole is a DAUNTING work. It’s heavy to listen to, puts you in a specific mood, and had to be one of the most draining times in Trent’s life for sure. To recollect on such a heavy time in someone’s life is something we’ve all done. The way we look back as NIN being that band that was there for us. The way some of you have felt that you’ve grown out of NIN, etc. It represents a moment in time.Hesitation Marks is DIFFERENT, obviously. It’s always been exciting for me to make music by myself because no one is telling me what to do. telling me whats GOOD or BAD, its fun, and sometimes when I share things, people aren’t really sure where its coming from. There are sides of NIN that hadn’t been discovered before this album, and thats a GOOD thing. I like hearing talent push themselves. The album is about re-discovery. Conflict of self. The name makes more sense now. It’s all about Mr. Self Creation. “Everything” may not be for me, but it’s a celebration. Let him have HIS moment with HIS band. The man and band are free to do what they want. It’s true. It doesn’t feel like a false representation. He’s not being anything that he’s not. The album is FUN. The album is refreshing. I like not knowing what to expect. It’s on par with With Teeth for me. That’s a complement, and it might be the best one PI will give it.…just skip “Everything” and enjoy.B+
